Activity:  Autopsy of Mr. Pickle - Students learn body planes/cuts and directional terms used in the medical field.

After completing this lab, students will 
  • be able to apply the knowledge of medical terms and directionality to perform mock a autopsy.

Activity:  Students create a 3-D model to identify and label organ systems, organs and functions. Students may use various online sources to complete this activity.    

After participating in this review activity, students will 
  • know relative locations of all organs and organ systems
Activity:  Gingerbread Man Surgery - Students use knowledge of anatomical terms, regions and directionality to perform surgical procedures on a clay gingerbread man.  Students interpret anatomical terms, regions and directionality and recreate medical terminology into common language.  

After participating in this lab, students will 
  • apply the knowledge of medical terms and directionality, the use of medical apparatus and techniques, as well as a general understanding of the 3-D location of organs within the human body, to perform mock surgeries.  
Label Diagrams:  11 Organ Systems Review - Students label each of the 11 diagrams with the name of the organ system it represents.  Class discusses the major function of each system.     
Activity:  Anatomical Landmarks, Regions & Cavities /  Labels - Students label Body Cavities, Quadrants & Regions on their 3-D human poster, using the diagrams given.    Students label Body Landmarks on their 3-D human poster, using the body systems packet and the Medical Terminology guide.  

After participating in this activity, students will 
  • know medical terms for body landmarks and which structures/organs are located in each body cavity, quadrant, or region of the body

PPT / Trivia Challenge:  Systems and Organs Functions - Students review the structures within each system and the functions of each organ of body system.  

After participating in this review activity, students will 
  • know structures and functions of all organs and organ systems
