Wilburworld of Science

Lab:  Heart Rate & Blood Pressure - Students measure blood pressure and heart rate under different conditions to investigate how exercise and general fitness influence these measurements.

After completing these labs, students will
  • be able to perform all routine physical assessments, analyze and interpret structural and physiological tests.

PPT/Notes:  An overview of Imaging Techniques - Students will be able to explain the difference between X-Rays, Ultrasounds, CTscans & MRI's and be able give examples of situations where each would be used.

After watching and discussing these video clips, students will
  • understand how imaging techniques utilize sound waves, electromagnetic wavelengths and magnetic properties
  • know the difference between ultrasounds, X-rays, CT scans, MRI's, PET scans, EKG & EEG
Virtual: Echocardiogram - Students learn how to read an ECG and correlate the steps involved in a normal heart rhythm with electrical signals recorded on the ECG.

After completing this activity, students will
  • be able to perform all routine physical assessments, analyze and interpret structural and physiological tests.

Lab: Heart Dissection - Students dissect a sheep heart.  After completing this lab, students will know basic heart structures and their relative locations and function in pumping blood throughout the body.
PPT/Notes:  Basic Structure & Function of the Heart & Vessels are discussed.

After completing these diagrams, students will
  •  know structures and functions of organs of the circulatory system.

Activity: X-rays -
Activity: Respiratory Rate -
PPT/Notes:  Basic Structure & Function of the Skeletal & Musculature System are reviewed.
